Dorothy works across narrative, documentary and theatrical modes of filmmaking, and her collaborative approach is often inspired by her protagonists' lived experiences. Currently, her projects focus on state systems of control and the possibilities of collective resistance. She tackles complex subjects head on, with an intimacy, warmth and an unflinching gaze.

She has a particular interest in blurring the line between performance and reality, and is founding member of Breach Theatre, and associate artist of Kestrel Theatre, who run theatre and film workshops in prisons.

Dorothy was awarded the Arts Foundation Film Fellowship in 2026. She won Best Short at Open City Doc Festival and 16 Days 16 Films, Grand Prix at Arts Convergence, was shortlisted for a Grierson and received many Vimeo Staff Picks. Her work has screened at festivals including London Film Festival, Hot Docs and Sheffield DocFest, and on channels including PBS, Guardian Documentaries and the BBC.

She was director's assistant on Kaos (Netflix), directed 2nd Unit on Rye Lane (Searchlight), and was selected to take part in Network @LFF in 2022 and  Union Docs in 2023. She’s an accomplished commercials director, working with Common People (UK) and Skunk (US), and is represented by Jessica Stewart at Independent for Film and TV. She’s currently developing her debut feature documentary with Good Things Going, supported by Doc Society, and debut feature drama with Sixteen Films, in development with BBC Films.

Danny Leigh, Chief Film Critic, Financial Times,  said: "her work demonstrates extraordinary confidence and soundness of judgment. Her filmmaking shows a deep understanding of reality and form, from the way she handles complex themes to her innovative use of masks and performance.”
